MetallicaSuper metal/rock band Metallica has stepped up in a big way this week as they’ll be headlining the New Orleans Voodoo Music and Arts Experience later this month. They will be taking over the reigns from Green Day as their frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is in rehab battling substance abuse. Metallica will be performing October 27th which will mark the first time that they’ve played the Voodoo event.

Metallica’s drummer Lars Ulrich had the following to say about the event:

“Our good friends and fellow Bay Area residents Green Day had to unfortunately cancel their plans to be there, so we are more than happy to fill in for them in our own unique way. We’re hoping we can fill those very large shoes and do them proud.” Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammet told Fuse that Metallica got the call to step in a couple of days ago. “We discussed it between the four of us and we all said, ‘Yeah.’ It would be a great thing for us to do and it would also be great to help out Billie Joe because he’s a friend of ours and we love Green Day. If we can help them out in any way possible, we’re always happy to do it because we love those guys.”

Meanwhile as Metallica fills in for Green Day, new light has come in of Billie Joe Armstrong as Green Day’s former producer Rob Cavallo hints the band may need to cancel more shows as “Billie’s rehab is no joke” and that he’s currently under medical supervision for a while to get clean. Tour dates were to begin in November but it’s expected that more dates may be canceled.
