WWE RAW kicks off with the beautiful and lovely Stephanie McMahon who hasn’t been in a WWE ring in years. She reveals to the WWE Universe that she’s enforced an executive decision to not have Triple take on Curtis Axel tonight as she has concern for his health and well being. This gets a ton of boos from the WWE Universe as she implores them to not be selfish as this isn’t about them but her husband. She also tells them that Curtis Axel is beneath her husband. Vince McMahon comes out to a large pop from the WWE Universe but it turns to boos after he tells them that Triple H has given the business so much but even more as a member of the family as he won’t compete tonight. Vince tells the Universe that the WWE isn’t a bloodsport and reminds them how savage they were when they begged Ryback to put Kofi Kingston through a table not once, twice but three times! As result Kingston is out on injury for the next few months. Vince shares the same sentiments with his daughter of Curt Axel as he really is beneath Triple H. Before they can leave the ring we hear the music of The Shield as Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns come down to surround the ring. What could they possibly want?

Recap from Triple H, Vince & Stephanie McMahon’s encounter earlier is shown.

We go to the ring now for the contract signing between CM Punk & Chris Jericho. Jerry Lawler is the moderator for this signing. Jericho comes out first and Paul Heyman follows. Looks like Heyman is representing Punk once again this week. Heyman tells Jericho that this signing could’ve went down in the back in private but Jericho cuts him off to mock him. Heyman begins to hype up Punk’s accomplishments but Jericho tells him he doesn’t give a damn about what Punk has done. The crowd is eating this segment up as they are hanging on Jericho’s words with cheers. Heyman signs the contract on behalf of Punk and slides it to Jericho. Heyman asks if he’s truly prepared to face the best in the world in Chicago. Heyman talks about how the fans will be anti-Jericho at Payback since it’ll be a Chicago crowd where CM Punk is from. Jericho sarcastically offers to reschedule the match forcSummerSlam in Los Angeles, Madison Square Garden or even tonight in front of the crowd. All shot down by Heyman as Jericho says it’ll have to take place at Payback then. Jericho tells Heyman it doesn’t matter where Punk is from- if you act like a jackass, you get treated like one. Jericho ponders where they will file the contract at but tells Heyman to stand up and unbutton his jacket as he shoves it down Heyman’s pants and tells him afterwards he’ll see him in Chicago.

Kane reluctantly agrees but also tells him he’s leaving for the night and to give him a call when he gets his sanity back.

Match 9: John Cena vs. Curtis Axel in a No Disqualification match

“Chekhov’s Table” struck and Curtis Axel’s winning streak continued in the finale of Raw when the third-generation prodigy clashed with the WWE Champion in a McMahon-mandated No Disqualification Match, riding an unlikely assist to another controversial victory. While Paul Heyman’s newest prospect may be a Superstar of few words, he proved himself to be a competitor of considerable brutality, swinging a steel chair and showing shades of his father and grandfather in a strong, veteran-level effort against the Cenation leader to end WWE RAW.
